Cogshall’s population represents 1.7% of the Borough’s population. There were 857 households in 2001 of which 90% were owner-occupied and social housing accounted for a further 6%.
At the time of the 2001 Census, of those aged between 16 and 74 years, 67.9% were economically active which is above the rate for Vale Royal (65%) and that for England and Wales (60.6%). The unemployed accounted for only 1.8% of whom 28% were aged over 50 and 17% were long-term unemployed. Those otherwise economically inactive formed 13.8% of the population in the same age range. Retired people represent 16.5% of the age group.
Cogshall Ward is a single unit for the purpose of measuring social and economic disadvantage. According to the Government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004, Cogshall Ward does not show any levels of deprivation. Educationally the ward is in the top 10% nationally of those least deprived as regards educational opportunities and the skills and qualifications of the population.

The highest category of complaints to the police were about youths causing a nuisance. For the year 2001 02 ‘Nuisance Youths’ was not a separate category but were contained within ‘Disturbance in a public place.
