Winsford Dene

Background

Dene Ward covers the town centre of Winsford. (See Map) It contains 140 hectares. The town centre of Winsford and its surrounding areas offer retail and entertainment outlets. There are residential and business premises as well as the headquarters of the Vale Royal Borough Council. There is one primary school, a library, a church hall and the civic hall in the ward.

 In 2001 there were 1753 households of which 73.7% were owner-occupied and social housing accounted for a further 18.8%.

At the time of the 2001 Census, of those aged between 16 and 74 years 60.6% were economically active which is just below the rate for Vale Royal (62.8%) and the same as that for England and Wales (60.6%). The unemployed accounted for only 2.9% of whom 14% were aged over 50, 7% had never worked and 17?% were long-term unemployed. Those otherwise economically inactive formed 20.8% of the population in the same age range. Retired people represent 15.8% of the age group.

The ward is divided into three areas for the purpose of measuring social and economic disadvantage. According to the Government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004, this Ward does show some levels of deprivation. The south-western area is in the bottom 10% as regards health matters and the north-western in the bottom 20%. All three areas are in the bottom 20% for environmental issues.

Disorder

In 2005/06 new categories of Anti-social behaviour were used by the police making it difficult to compare previous years. During the past year the following incidents were recorded by the police.
