Winsford Gravel

Background

Gravel Ward lies to the east of Winsford Town Centre. (See Map) It contains 475 hectares. The railway bisects this ward leaving the north-western part mainly residential and the north-eastern area industrial :a part of the Winsford Industrial estate. The remainder is semi-rural. There are two primary schools in the area.

In 2001 there were 1570 households of which 82.2% were owner-occupied and social housing accounted for a further 12%.  

At the time of the 2001 Census, of those aged between 16 and 74 years 63% were economically active which is just above the rate for Vale Royal (62.8%) and above that for England and Wales (60.6%). The unemployed accounted for only 2.8% of whom 16% were aged over 50, 4% had never worked and 22% were long-term unemployed. Those otherwise economically inactive formed 20.4% of the population in the same age range. Retired people represent 14% of the age group. 

The ward is divided into three areas for the purpose of measuring social and economic disadvantage. According to the Government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004, this Ward does show some levels of deprivation. The north-western area is in the bottom 20% nationally for employment, health and education; the south-west is in the bottom 10% for environment. However, the north-west is in the top 10% as regards housing.

Disorder

In 2005/06 new categories of Anti-social behaviour were used by the police making it difficult to compare previous years. During the past year the following incidents were recorded by the police.
