In 2001 there were 2040 households of which 57.8% were owner-occupied and social housing accounted for a further 35%. At the time of the 2001 Census, of those aged between 16 and 74 years 61% were economically active which is just below the rate for Vale Royal (62.8%) and above that for England and Wales (60.6%). The unemployed accounted for only 5% of whom 9% were aged over 50, 6% had never worked and 25% were long-term unemployed. Those otherwise economically inactive formed 25% of the population in the same age range. Retired people represent 9% of the age group. Over is divided into four areas for the purpose of measuring social and economic disadvantage. According to the Government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004, this Ward does show some levels of deprivation. Both the western (covering Greenfields and Mount Pleasant) and the southern area are in the bottom 10% nationally for overall deprivation indicators; these two areas also feature in the bottom 10% for income, employment and health. Educationally, the Greenfields and Mount Pleasant area is ranked 31 out of over 32482. Crime
