Winsford Swanlow

 

Background

Swanlow Ward lies to the south-west of Winsford Town Centre. (See Map) It contains 227 hectares. This ward is largely residential with a few farms. The Glebe Green estate lies in this ward. It contains the site of the ancient parish church of Over and a primary school.

In 2001 there were 1773 households of which 74% were owner-occupied and social housing accounted for a further 22.3%.

At the time of the 2001 Census, of those aged between 16 and 74 years 63% were economically active which is just above the rate for Vale Royal (62.8%) and above that for England and Wales (60.6%). The unemployed accounted for only 3.5% of whom 12% were aged over 50, 3% had never worked and 21% were long-term unemployed. Those otherwise economically inactive formed 21.8% of the population in the same age range. Retired people represent 11.7% of the age group. 

This ward is divided into three for the purpose of measuring social and economic disadvantage. According to the Government’s Index of Multiple Deprivation 2004, this Ward does show some levels of deprivation. The Glebe Green and part of Swanlow Park area are in the bottom 20% for overall deprivation scores and in the bottom 10% as regards income. The larger area scores in the bottom 20% for environmental factors.

Disorder

In 2005/06 new categories of Anti-social behaviour were used by the police making it difficult to compare previous years. During the past year the following incidents were recorded by the police.
